Keeping your pet pain-free is crucial to maintaining his or her quality of life.
Our veterinarians use a multi-modal approach to pain management that includes anti-inflammatories, opioid drugs, local anesthetics, general anesthetics, and even epidural (around the spinal cord/nerves) anesthesia to effectively combat pain at all levels. This is very helpful because it allows us to treat the pain more completely and effectively and sometimes even decrease drug dosages because various classes of drugs have additive or synergistic analgesic effects when given together. As a result, adverse side effects from each of the drugs in the combination can be anticipated to be less.
Dr. Syngajewski also offers acupuncture for additional pain relief options.
Physical rehabilitation is also offered through VCA South Shore (in Weymouth), where Jackie Levy, CVT utilizes therapeutic exercises combined with additional modalities such as hydrotherapy, ultrasound, cryotherapy, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation to improve the recovery of patients with both acute and chronic conditions. Rehabilitation can restore, maintain and promote optimal function and mobility; enhance recovery post-operatively; alleviate pain; improve circulation, coordination and range of motion; and provide confidence and comfort in geriatric patients.
If your pet is dealing with acute pain, our goal is to prevent the nerves from perceiving and remembering this pain so that it does not become chronic pain. For this reason, pain-management protocols are a part of the treatment plan for all invasive procedures, such as surgeries. If your pet is already dealing with chronic pain, our veterinarians can create a customized pain management plan based on your pet's individual needs and medical issues.
When our patients???????? pain is treated more completely we can see fewer complications as well as faster recoveries!
